We suffered a very sad loss this week which resulted in Donald Trump winning the presidency. The time to for grief and sadness is now over. We must put that behind us and move forward to make sure the policies we want are protected and can move forward. If Donald Trump can compromise we work with him but if he does not we must do every thing in our power to stop him.
Hillary Clinton won the popular vote but did not win the election due to the old electoral college system that we use. We will not be able to abolish the electoral college without holding a constitutional convention which will not happen anytime soon if even in our lifetime however The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) is an agreement among several U.S. states and the District of Columbia to award all their respective electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate wins the overall popular vote in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The compact is designed to ensure that the candidate who wins the most popular votes is elected president, and it will come into effect only when it will guarantee that outcome. As of today, it has been joined by California, Washington, Illinois, New York, Maryland, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island, Hawaii and the District of Columbia with proposals before the legislature currently in Michigan and Pennsylvania. If your state is not one of these mentioned above please contact your representatives and put pressure on them to propose the legislation to join this compact.
